On this evening, one half of the original Red Lion Tavern in Winchester, VA will be opened to the public. The original limestone building, built in 1783, has been remodeled through the years and presently houses two separate businesses. One half of the original structure, 208 S. Loudoun St., will be available to tour on First Friday in old town Winchester.
Privately owned since it was built by Peter Lauck in the late 1700's, this magnificent piece of Winchester history has rarely been available for tours. Currently for sale, the building is empty and its owners are taking the opportunity to allow the public a chance to see in one of Winchester's most historic buildings.
To help celebrate the occassion, three of Winchester's most well known authors will be at the Red Lion Tavern open house to sell and sign their books. It will be a great night to talk history, architecture and hauntings.
You will be able to meet and talk with, Kate Parker author of "Winchester" (Images of America) , Maral Kalbian author of "Frederick County Virginia: History Through Architecture" and Mac Rutherford author of, "Historic Haunts of Winchester".
The restaurants, shops and galleries of the walking mall in Old Town Winchester celebrate First Friday each month. Come on August 6th and take advantage of this once in a lifetime chance to tour the old Red Lion Tavern. We will be glad to see you.
