Henry Buhl is the subject for the program at the New Market Historical Society Annual Dinner at the Quality Inn in New Market. SCHS Board Member, Philip Crown, has put together a new installment in his series "Yester-Years in the Shenandoah Valley", with "A Glimpse into the life of Henry Buhl."
Henry Buhl was born in New Market, lived in Warrenton VA for a few years during his boyhood and returned to New Market where he has lived since. He tells stories about his father working as a groom for Willis Sharpe Kilmer, at Court Manor, the owner of many famous racehorses. He inherited the Mattie & Evia Bushong farm when he was 19 and raised cattle there for 50 years - at the same time becoming a school teacher who taught in the same classroom for 35 years at Harrisonburg High. Henry talks about the changes he saw growing up in New Market.
