The 11th annual Shenandoah County Heritage Day will take place on Sat., Apr. 13th from 11 am—3 pm at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church at 12180 Back Road in Maurertown. The featured area this year is nestled within the bend of Cedar Creek. It includes Mt. Hope, Paddy’s Mills, Turkey Run, Van Buren Furnace, Star Tannery and Zepp. This northern-most region of Davis Magisterial District is NW of Little North Mountain, and also includes the western part of Stonewall Magisterial District. Local families include Afflick, Bowman, Brill, Fauber, Foltz, Fry, Goodlove, Hashman, Himelright, McIlwee, Mowrey, Orndorff, Pangle, Parker, Racey, Rudolph, Showalters, Smith and Wilson. Local schools, churches and cemeteries will be shown and six post offices will play roles in the day. Van Buren Furnace will be featured, as will Shenandoah Brass Bands, the CCC and local family lore. The church is handicapped accessible and lunch will be available for purchase. Admission is free.
